Jewellery Shop

A jewellery shop is a lighting project before it is anything else. Here the room is built as a series of illuminated niches set into a warm travertine wall, each one sized to a single tray so that the eye is given one thing at a time rather than a wall of glitter.

At the centre, a circular island in the same stone lets clients walk the full way around a collection. Its curve keeps circulation open and removes the confrontational counter that most jewellers default to — the staff and the client stand on the same side of the object.

The rear wall is a full-height backlit onyx panel, which doubles as the shop’s evening signature: after dark the ambient light drops away and the stone becomes the only light source in the room, visible from the street through the arched shopfront.
